London Transport Museum Official Whipsnade Zoo Print

This official London Transport Museum, Whipsnade Zoo print by Arnrid Banniza Johnston depicts a tranquil idealised scene with bears, zebra, deer and wolves all enjoying their natural surroundings together. In the background are the famous Dunstable Downs, home of the Zoo.

The print measures 30 cm (w) x 40 cm (h) and has been digitally printed on Mondi 250gsm smooth paper.

Issued in 1932, the original poster was illustrated by Arnrid Banniza Johnston, a Swedish sculptor and illustrator who spent most of her life in Britain. Animals are a recurring theme in her work and she designed several posters for London Zoo too.

The original poster advertised a return coach ride to Whipsnade Zoo from London. The Zoo had only been open for a year at the time.
